“Egypt” (1931) 16mm Film Home Movie, Street, Camel, Pyramids, Horse Race, Nile + Hopefully the video will be approved soon. I have uploaded the video on YouTube: https://youtu.be/9w6B2a4w1H0 Incredible footage from a trip to Egypt in 1931 which captures Cairo, the pyramids and the Nile. Having been to Cairo and knowing how hot it is, it was so interesting to see the travel party wearing fur collared coats, hats and suits on the camel ride to the pyramids. And the Sphinx pyramid was still being excavated at that time. The filmmaker has edited in title frames and portions of what looks like souvenir footage in with their own film footage. Great historical footage. FILM CONDITION: The film appears to be in good condition, ran smoothly on a manual thread Revere projector and has no detectable vinegar syndrome. Some warp, streaking and speckling on portions. There are clicks at each of the splice point, but the film did not lose track. The souvenir film portions have a yellow hue. ODOR: film has a mothball odor. 7” reel (approximately 15 min) Rough timeline: 1 min – title frames, strange sights in the streets of Cairo, donkeys pulling carts, man walking monkey, police with horses, people in the streets 45 sec – souvenir footage, camels in town, buildings, domes, street, people, guy doing the shell game (heavy streaking on this section) 15 sec – Church of St Joseph 30 sec – souvenir footage, city, churches, spires, citadel (streaking) 30 sec – citadel, people in street, title frames, Christmas in Cairo Feb 21 1931, people in the town square 1 min 45 sec – souvenir footage, Muski Bazaar, people, shops, buildings, horse and carriage, bead manufacturing, ornamental brass workers, Kasr el Nike Bridge 30 sec – Alabaster Mosque, courtyard, still shot of interior, jug of wine on “Thou”, a woman in burka with jug on head 2 min 30 sec – to Sphinx and pyramids by camel, mounting camels (in fur collared coats, suits and hats. They have to be hot), riding to pyramids, great pyramid, sphinx (still being excavated at this time), group on camels, camel guide, excavation activities, people going into pyramid 1 min 15 sec – Heliopolis horse races at Cairo, grandstand, horses, paddocks, race, crowds, girls smiling after win, pan of grandstands, race, band playing, folks chatting 2 min 30 sec – waterfront and bridges of Cairo, trip down the Nile by boat, boats, buildings along river, Egyptian sailboats, 45 sec – the Delta Barrage, barrages, landing at barrages 1 min 30 sec – friends, trip to Sakkara and Memphis, statue of Ramesh II at Memphis, alabaster sphinx, step pyramid, getting off camel, street in Sakkara 1 min – mud houses, pan, spiral water lift, walls of the tombs in Sakkara, wall carvings Please see photos to verify item condition.
