Listed items will not be marked down during the listing duration. Holiday is a pattern that looks as though it should have been brought out 50 years earlier than its 1951 debut date. The design is a profusion of roses, with an Art Nouveau feel to it. The marks are King Edward Silverplate, and the NSC crown logo, indicating National Silver Co. The salad set is an item of silver that has a curious history. Before WWI, a two piece set existed, but is relatively scarce. This set had long handles, the fork had narrow tines, the spoon had a narrow bowl. The salad referred to was of a chicken salad type dish. Lettuce was served with a device called the lettuce fork, and what we think of as a salad was usually available only seasonally. Offered here is a large salad serving set, a somewhat hard to find item in this size. The salad serving set offered here consists of spoon & fork which measure respectively about 12 1/2″ and about 12 1/4″. These are not pieces of new silverware. They show the patina of as much as 60 years of careful use. There are the light scratches which constitute normal patina. There is no monogram. Silver is softly lustrous. There is some light silver loss on the edges of the tines and shoulders of the fork, and a tiny spot on the front of the handle; the spoon has a tiny bit on the edges of the bowl, and a heel dot; the bowl of the spoon has 2 little pits, and the front of the handle of the fork has a longer deeper scratch, all the result of age and continuous use, and the result of prolonged contact with salt and vinegar.
