The Mon-Key electric telegraph keyer from Electric Eye Equipment was the very first electric key. For anyone reading this unfamiliar with electric keyers, pushing left on the paddle creates a dot, while pushing right creates a perfectly formed dash (exactly 3x longer than the dot). The keys’s controls make it possible to shorten or lengthen the sounds, thus increasing the transmission speed of your message. This particular key was well cared for, and is in really nice condition. It retains the original Mon-Key logo, while the base, housing, and key itself look good. The only real imperfection observed is the start of a small stress/pressure crack on the plastic key housing, which can happen when it is screwed down too hard. The key powers up, as expected, and once warmed up forms a perfect dash (or “dah”) sound. Both the volume and key speed knobs appear to work well. I would guess that an amateur radio enthusiast with an extra hour or two could sort out the dot issue. I would also recommend replacing the old electrolytic capacitors. A neat piece with a special place in history for both ham radio operators who love CW, and those with an interest in telegraphy. Please feel free to reach out with any questions.
