This is a wonderful set – unique and outside the norm of what was normally produced by this manufacturer. I spent a fair amount of time on research, but could not confirm with certainty that this was SACA Castelli (originally formed in 1921 in Florence, Italy). I did find exact matches for the form, and all of the others listed theirs as SACA, so I went with it. Either we’re all wrong, or we’re all right. 🙂 Regardless, I am confident this is mid-century, with the earthenware faience glaze common of that region. In this set – and the others, the handle is very stylized and distinctive, with what looks like two hand formed ropes put together and curled at the bottom, and seems to always have an almost animal print type paint design. Instead of the more common sunny Italian hues, though, the rest of the set has a gorgeous cobalt blue and gold combination. It also has the majolica – like 3-D form design around the borders. Perfect for a collector who wants something rare to add to their Italian pottery collection. Or for yours! 🙂 The cup measures 3 1/2″ in diameter without the handle, 4 1/8″ across with the handle, and 2 3/4″ high. The saucer is 4 3/4″ in diameter.
